Harbour House

Project Overview

Located in Chicago’s near northwest suburbs, Harbour House is a new 3,500-square-foot shelter that will offer temporary housing and support services for young women and transgender youth experiencing homelessness. Kinzie is providing construction services at a reduced rate to The Harbour, the nonprofit organization based in Park Ridge, IL that will operate the shelter.

The new $1.34-million project was delayed from its original start date due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on fundraising efforts. Kinzie was among the many supporters who stepped in to keep the project moving forward by not only offering its services at a reduced rate, but also by engaging subcontractors to do the same, passing the additional savings on to The Harbour.

Groundbreaking on the project took place in the summer of 2021, just as Kinzie celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Kinzie’s Founder and Principal Steve Spinell had this to say about opportunity to support The Harbour’s initiative:

“Since Kinzie’s founding, we’ve made a pledge to give back to the community both in terms of financial support, as well as by donating our time and talents. We couldn’t think of a better way to pay forward our success than to have a hands-on role in helping The Harbour continue its mission, which over the past 50 years has helped thousands of young women experiencing homelessness create a path for their own personal success. We are beyond grateful to have this opportunity.”

The Harbour is continuing to raise money for Harbour House and its programming to support young women and transgender youth experiencing homelessness. Visit The Harbour’s website to donate.
